The Organ is dedicated to my mother, a diagnosed Mad person, and linguistic savant. To contextualize surreal childhood memories of my upbringing, I began to research how difference and supernatural ability is pathologized in the Mental Health industry. This work moves between improvised movement and speech and scripted theatrical choice, to accentuate how mental illness can be both real and constructed. The resulting narrative resembles memoir: personal, magnetic, repulsive, and erotic.
